After seeing a number of recent news stories about electric vehicles catching fire when stored in workshops, we’re determined to continue our work with dealerships and workshops to support and enhance their fire safety protocols for both personnel and customers.

We’ve highlighted on a number of occasions over the last 18 months how many workshops are already using the Fire Cloak™ to mitigate the risks posed by an electric vehicle whilst it is undergoing routine maintenance or repair. Placing the Fire Cloak™ over any EV overnight when it is not being worked on is a highly effective preventative safety measure for any garage or repair centre.

States Matt Butcher: “Our clients are complementing the use of a thermal imaging camera to regularly check the temperature of an electric vehicle on site with the Fire Cloak™  to excellent effect.”

“Technicians know that when they begin work on the chassis of an electric vehicle, it must remain on the ramp until all work is complete,” explains Matt Butcher. “Placing the Fire Cloak™ over the EV as a means of providing an extra layer of fire safety in case something does happen when the workshop is closed is a strategy that every workshop should consider adopting.”

Adds Matt: “If the lithium ion battery array is indeed damaged, particularly if the vehicle has been involved in an accident, and does happen to ignite, the smoke alarms in the workshop will sound and the emergency services will be alerted. On arrival, any fire will be contained by the Fire Cloak™, collateral damage is minimised, and professional fire crews can work quickly on extinguishing the fire.”
